Straightforward competence porn featuring kickass heroine. No big surprises--just good action and suspense. Kind of like a Repairman Jack book, only without the supernatural elements or libertarian ranting. Fun and entertaining. I'm on board for more Poe books.

Bounty Hunter without a bounty

I'm not too sure what to make of this book. I'm a fan of Brett Battles Cleaner series, so I thought this might be an interesting twist, a female version of Quinn. Sadly, if that was the direction the book was suppose to go, it seriously missed the mark.
Since the book has been out for a while, there probably a few good reviews already written up, but here's my brief summary of it.
Alexandra Pie is a bounty Hunter without a bounty, but a quest to fine her pops. He mission, infiltrate a Ukrainian Women's prison to free a prison who might have some info on her dad. Book is roughly 40 chapter, 2-3 of them cover the introduction of Alex and crew. 1 chapter was giving to her travels to the prison, the remaining +25 chapters of the book is her time behind bars. Only 2-3 days passes with Alex behind bars, but the authors felt that this need over 80% of the book, ultimately to end with her not meeting up with her father.

This prison break story is where i think the book fell apart. Authors did really give us an interesting take of a woman's prison, despite being in a foreign country whose lax adherence to the law was mentioned, but it never made an impact on Poe's stay in prison. Poe was never in any real danger, and her escape went relatively smoothly, all of which made the book long and boring.
I will not be reading book 2.
