aside from the brilliant premise, the endearing characters and the tears-inducing stories, what struck me the most about this book is that despite it being devoid of flowery and pompous descriptions, i think it to be utterly cinematic. throughout my reading, my mind has crafted such a vivid image of the café that i felt like i was in it : i could almost see the pristine white cups of coffee with the steam rising from them, feel the pleasant coolness of the place and the coziness of the dimmed sepia lighting, hear the characteristic "CLANG-DONG" of the doorbell and the cheerful "hello, welcome !" that follows.
i am often rather reluctant when it comes to film or tv adaptations of books, but this one has the potential to be exploited so very nicely.

So. The characters are an interesting case of "women written by men", which leaves a bad taste in my move. There is a lot of good, old-fashioned sexism in here.

The writing is really something else. The writing feels stiff and lifeless. I think words were used in wrong contexts. I will say this is probably a translation issue.

The story itself is once again - fine. It isn't what "How we loose the time war" or even close and want to read a time traveling book that makes me sob but was left disappointed. Still a quick read tho with an interesting concept.

Okay maybe I just didn’t like the first story because I really enjoyed the rest of the book. I liked the concept and that it was a quick read. I think by the second story I was like yeah! This is good! Especially around grief. What I would give to be able to do this for my mum. Just sit and have coffee with her. Tell her about my day. Maybe get a treat to share ooh! So simple! Don’t wanna change a thing just want to spend more time.

Good book yes.
