Very intriguing!

I was a little skeptical at first, this isn't something that I would normally read. But I loved Sloane Howell's other books and gave it a try. I ended up loving this story. It's pretty gruesome, but kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I hope there are some follow ups to this story!

Maggie is taken into human trafficking by Kiril, the overlord of Golem, lead to believe her family is dead, she ends up working for him selling her body until one night she manages to escape. Rescued by Zak, she trained to kill and becomes the Matriarch, a women out to destroy Kiril.

Maggie as a young girl was defiant, but after losing her family she lost her will but once she escaped she had hope again and became the kick ass heroine, that made this story.

This book was full of action from the moment you start reading, it was a fast paced read and kept my interest. I enjoyed that Maggie's story was told from the beginning and you can understand what made her grow into the person everyone admired.

The author really captured the super hero character, as Maggie had the double identity, the mask and even disguises to confuse people. The addition of Cody, made her secret even harder to keep and it was good for her to act like a real girl and not the strong no-nonsense business woman or superhero. Once Ka0s came into the story, the story took an interesting turn and although I had my suspicions who he was, it was still a shock as why he did it.

This has been tagged as an erotic novel so yes there are some graphic sex scenes in it, but this help explain the story. I personally would class this as an action superhero book. As the 1st in the series I am curious as what will happen next to Maggie and if she can come through from more betrayal

This book is unique and dark and stormy. I've never read a superhero romance before, so it's an interesting spin on the genre. I saw some hints of The Dark Knight in the plot, but that's not a bad thing. Curious to see where this one goes!

What a fuckin book!!!!! Sloane, this was one of the most amazing, heart-stopping books I have ever read. Seriously!!! I was hooked. I was lost to reality around me as I delved into Maggie and The Matriarch's world. Everything that happened had me on the edge of my seat. It was a whirlwind of knives, fast cars, romance and a badass woman kicking some serious arse.

Now I just need you to write the second one. Like now!! I need more. Everything is left up in the air and I need to find out what happens.

Wow! First of all, I can't believe it took me so long to read this! I have been a fan of Sloane Howell's work for a while now, and this has to be my favourite by far. It has everything - action, sex, love, betrayal. It has a real Marvel/DC comic book feel to it.

Maggie Madison has not had an easy life. She has witnessed things that no-one should ever have to see. She has been subjected to a life of torment and to make it easier on herself, she has found ways to cope, brushing them aside as if they are nothing.
Deep down, though, she is looking for a way out. The man responsible has gone too far, and he must pay. She bides her time, slowly building up her empire, while in the dark of night, she unleashes her justice. One by one, she takes out the people helping the man behind her pain.
Amidst it all, she meets a man like no other. A man who makes her feel like a girl again. He shows her what it's like to be treated with respect and trust, something she hasn't experienced when dealing with men. Is he too good, though? How can she ever tell him of her dark past? What would he think of her then? Would he understand?

There were some seriously evil characters in there. Characters who made me really appreciate the life that I have had. I'm not gonna lie, there were some pretty brutal scenes. Some WTF moments. But that's what I love about it! It was dark and light, sexy and sinful. It was amazing.

I only have one thing left to say - Sloane, where the hell is my sequel???

Blurb
Betrayal is easy, sex is a weapon, and information is power. Maggie Madison sits in the lofty towers of her city during the day, but at night she lurks the seedy underbelly, looking to snare the man who stole her innocence. Her simple quest becomes complicated when she meets a man who is as light as she is dark, as straightforward as she is deceptive. When a villain rises and sets her world alight, she must weigh her need for revenge against the good of the city she vowed to protect.

Freaking fantastic!! I'm not sure I can even find the right words to do this book justice.

Sometimes you start a book with a bit of trepidation. Uncertain of what you'll find. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't a little leery going into this book. But I was sold after reading the first line.

"Jesus Christ this guy can f*ck. Shame he has to die."

At the age of 12, Maggie descends into hell. Her family is murdered, she's taken and held captive, and is forced into a life of prostitution. She had finally accepted her lot in life... until she didn't. Enough was enough and she escapes. She trains to become the city's new hope.

If you're a fan of Batman, you will LOVE this story. Everything is very Gotham-esque without being redundant. It's fresh, unique, raw, gritty, and BLOODY!

There is heartbreak:
"I love you so much... both of you... and..." I started to choke on my words but managed to stutter through them. "I'm going to m-miss you both so much. So very much. I'm going to make you so proud of me."

There is love:
"What do you want to do today?" The motor rumbled as I grinned in his direction. "Run away with you." He smiled. He always said the perfect things.

"Look at me." His eyes slowly rose as I unconsciously batted my eyelashes at him. "I'm still a girl." I couldn't believe those words left my lips, but they were true. "And when you hold me... it's the safest place in the world."

There is fight:
"Each time I put on the suit I became a different person. A person for criminals to fear."

There's also lies, deceit, murder, mayhem, betrayal and vengeance. The story is intense, scintillating, sexy, gory and incredibly brilliant. I NEED book 2 NOW!!

This was an interesting book. It isn't one I normally would have chosen by myself. It was chosen for me as a 'Surprise Me' option to the Blind Dates. Nonetheless, I definitely enjoyed it.

Maggie is one badass chick. Her character is thoroughly developed and I liked seeing the various parts to her.

There are many secondary characters, but Kiril is another character who was extremely developed. He was a fantastic villain.

This was the first action-movie type book I have read in a long time. Usually, I am not enthralled by this kind of books. However, The Matriarch is an exception! I was hooked from the first chapter.

And what an ending! It blew my mind! Although, I did see parts of it coming. Haha, it was one of those things where you either see it or you don't. I am usually terrible at that! But it clicked right before everything happened. I can't wait to see what Sloane comes up with next for Maggie!
