HEXSLAYER was a great continuation of this series though it also shows the deteriorating trust between familiars, witches, and humans and I’m curious to see how the last book will resolve some of these issues. The relationship in this one is more contentious because Nick, a horse familiar, absolutely hates witches and he’s quite the horse's ass (pun intended) for a large portion of the book. While he has very real and traumatic reasons for feeling the way he does it did mean that I never really warmed to his character until the very end. Especially because I loved Jamie, who is such an open book, so it was hard to see him be hurt by Nick’s attitude and words. That being said, I can’t recommend this series enough if you love paranormal romance with a historical setting.

Content Warning: on page police brutality and intimidation (not Jamie)

It was so great to finally get Nick's story. Jamie, too, turned out to be a pretty fascinating character. While I enjoyed the relationship and its evolution immensely, the plot in this one is what had me totally in its grip. I'm blown away by the way Jordan Hawk has crafted this world and magic system. Truly, it's familiar and original at the same time and to say I'm impressed would be the understatement of the year.

re-read: did I spend the whole book kind of wanting to shake Nick despite knowing exactly how it would all play out? yes, yes I did.

I love this world!!! I love Nick and Jamie :)

Nick is so surly and yet has a heart of gold. Jamie is naive in the plight of familiars but oh so earnest. The book was action packed, full of feeling, and sexy too. Jordan Hawk has the perfect blend of macabre and magic.

Really enjoyed this. Nick and Jamie are a good pairing, and the conspiracy keeps getting deeper and deeper (as well as higher and higher...).

Side note: While I also enjoyed book 1 (Hexbreaker), book 2 (Hexmaker) just didn't do much for me. I just couldn't get into the Owen/Malachi dynamic. Parts that were presumably intended to make you go "aw!" had me going, "eh?" Mostly including this for anyone who felt similarly, and were wondering whether to continue the series. I'd say go for it, as this one is as good as the first.

I was looking forward to Nick's story and it did not disappoint!! I loved Nick and Jamie together and the murder mystery kept me on the edge of my seat! This is my favorite of the series so far and I can't wait for the next installment! They just keep getting better!

This series was just okay for me. I expected more but it never really got there for me. While I loved the world building and wonderfully descriptive settings ... the series missed the mark when it came to chemistry. In many ways this book is similar to book two's "marriage of convenience" turning into love. And similar to all three books, this relationship is pretty instant ... seems to rely in magical attributes that felt like the type of "instant-love" that I don't typically enjoy. Entertaining but left me feeling like I wanted more ...

Audiobook review. Narrator: Tristan James

Oh boy, sure did love this story. I love the world that the author has created and how each story moves the world forward, not always in a positive way. The stories are stand-alone but have characters from each of the other stories making appearances in order to tie them together.

YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!! Big tough grumpy Nick is weak to small pretty cheerful Jamie. I was going to elaborate but if that description doesn't hook you, I don't know what will.
