A boy and his leashed dog go to the pond, where they discover beautiful swans swimming freely. After getting a ride on one of the swan's backs, the boy unleashes his dog and captures the swan...but quickly regrets the decision when he sees how the swan feels.

While the message is important (ecological conservation), it was delivered in a very weird way.

This wordless picture book made me mad from page 1, then it made me madder, until finally the little boy learned his lesson.

At the Pond (2020) is a wordless picture book by Geraldo Valério. It is a great book for very young students since there are no words, so they can "read" the book with or without someone reading to them, but it can also be enjoyed by older children. It shows a young boy who explores around a pond with his dog. He encounters all kinds of plants and animals and learns an important lesson about friendship and respect for wildlife.
This book would be helpful for teaching early readers to understand basic concepts of how books work, and could also be used in activities that involve retelling and summarizing stories. The illustrations are colorful and intentionally laid out, so it can also be used to teach visual literacy and how to identify key details in book illustrations.

I never read a wordless picture book so this was interesting to discover a story through pictures that were both beautiful and vibrant.

Love, love, love this book. Wordless, but such a strong, beautiful message. Highly recommend!
