FMC Reena is having a third life crisis, her parents want her to join the family business and marry her new neighbor Nadim. She wants to enter a cooking competition and possibly date Nadim.

I just love the way Farah writes complex family dynamics and interesting side characters. But also the romance- the grand gesture slayed me. And with the forced proximity roommates, brought all the right amount of angst.

Spice is fade to black in this one.

first… this book just bored me to be honest. things were somewhat interesting to be before the couple got together, but after they did i kinda got bored. second… the end of the book was not for me. the pacing changed and i feel like certain issues that were in the plot were kinda just rushed over. third…. the fake dating for the cooking competition was a somewhat irrelevant and unnecessary subplot (wasn’t even the main plot imo). fourth… ik this book was marketed as a muslim and halal book, and ik a lot of people were reading the book during ramadan. i saw a lot of muslim readers saying they were disappointed in that marketing and that this book is not halal. i think that’s an important factor for me to consider when rating because this book was definitely not halal and people shouldn’t have been led to believe that it is lol

i also just don’t usually like fake dating

68% finished and couldn’t continue. The characters and premise were interesting, but a 12 hour chicklit audiobook was long for me and the storyline dragged a bit. I’m currently in a reading slump, so check it out, if it sounds interesting to you!

I actually wasn't sure if I would like this, but I was glad I read it! Cute story combining romance and food.

A fun and entertaining read. Reena's parents are forever trying to set her up with a guy. Will it work this time? This book has got the fake dating trope. I liked how Reena and Nadim got to know each other better over cooking and eating food. I loved the banter. There were a few laugh out loud moments. There also was drama and many family secrets. I thought this was a cute story.
