Read with 5.5 year old son. We loved the positive affirmations and I particularly loved the prose. We loved how the "I am" sentences also described how the boys considered themselves to be kind, polite, etc., "I help my grandmother across the street". We also really loved the artwork!

A book that is a welcome sight. Embrace kids being curious, ball of energy, and the enthusiasm to be yourself. This would be encouraging to all kids, but this is especially for black boys shining! Just a really great book with illustrations that look like paintings.

i loved that the illustrations are paintings. Especially liked the last one. We are all equal.

I love the lyrical text of this book, but the almost-blurry style of the painted illustrations left me feeling disoriented.
