Pierce is the purest pulp writer working these days...Wouldn't be surprised if he is an actual reincarnation of Woolrich, but street-wise and with a keen, steady eye on the gutters of Oakland. Make no mistake, this is a kind of love story—like all great stories are...The action here serves to illuminate these uncannily complex characters. Stripped down prose offered by Pierce is its own, staccato street style. This is a helluva book by a REAL writer.
