I tried. I really, really tried. I kept an open mind through the first 1/3 of the book and gave it a sincere effort, but I just couldn't devote any more time to it after that and skim-read the last 2/3. I hated this book so much. I wouldn't have finished it at all except it was the Rabid Readers choice for December book. I love cats, and I love books about animals, but I cannot for the life of me understand the allure of this book. Because of this book, I had to read, "Can I have some mouse bile for Yellowfang's ticks?" Ugh.

This was good! For a kids' book, it's rather dark and action-packed. Genuinely had me on the edge of my seat towards the end, I see why it's so popular.

I never read these books as a kid, and I wanted to finally give them a try. This book definitely feels middle grade where as other books in the age range can feel more adult. But I don't think that is a bad thing because it is what the book is meant to be. I think the world building is really great and the clans of the cats are really fleshed out.  Overall I liked the book and will consider reading more.

First read this when I was 12. Re-reading the entire series now at 24 and I still love it.

This great series begins with Rusty, a kitten with ginger fur and his curiousity about the forest near his home. One day he decides to hunt a mouse in the forest and is greeted by mysterious cat that invite him to come and join them in the wild. Rusty agrees and is given the name of Firepaw, he is to train how to be a good fighter and hunter and he befriends fellow kitten-in-training (called Apprentices) Graypaw. Together they train, get into trouble and help save ThunderClan's newborn kits.

Time traveled back to middle school while rereading this book ahhhhh. By no means is this a piece of literary perfection, but it was silly and entertaining and lowkey not as stupid as I anticipated it to be. I will be rereading the entire series now.

Took a punt on a book aimed at a much younger audience which didn’t pay off. Naming conventions of the different cats annoyed me too much. Nail in the coffin was the “medic cat” requesting spiders webs to “patch up a wound”.

I’ve loved this series for the past 9 years. When I first read it, I read one every single day. Now, I read a little slower (as I’m busier), but I still love to re-read.

Into the Wild is a wonderful start to this wonderful series. It’s always a lovely read.
