This was a fast read and inventive reimagining of the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale. Although 16-year-old Tommin is the protagonist, I liked the character Eve even better. She was a strong, positive female lead who used her smarts to save the day. Although I felt like there were some story gaps that were glossed over, I still found this to be an enjoyable read overall and would be interested in reading other fairy tale retellings by this author based on this offering.

I used this Amazon Prime read as my pick for the 2019 POPSUGAR Ultimate Reading Challenge prompt "a book featuring an extinct or imaginary creature" (leprechauns, trolls, faeries, and more!) and the 2019 Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge prompt "a book you chose for the cover" (the cover caught my eye as I was scrolling through the Amazon Prime reads, which prompted me to read the blurb and check it out).

2.5/5?

I found the world-building surrounding the Leprechauns fascinating, but the actual plot of the book (and the romance) fell flat.

This book came to me as a deal for the kindle from Amazon. Of course if they have the audio-book to go along with it, I will get that too! Gerard Doyle is a terrific narrator! He really made the story come alive!
Tommin was 16 years old and lived with his adoring granny. She tried to keep him on a good path in life, but he had such urges to steal gold, he just could not help himself. He had a great talent for making beautiful shoes and he loved to make them even though the man he worked/apprenticed for only wanted plain shoes made.
When Lorcan Reilly and his niece, Eve, came to town, Tommin got the opportunity to make the most beautiful shoes he had ever made. This impressed Lorcan and soon Tommin found himself taken from the only home he had known and was tricked into becoming the Leprechaun he was destined to be.
I enjoyed the characters of this book, especially Tommin and Eve. I loved seeing the potential in Eve and was shocked with some of the things that happened right before part 2. I am glad things worked out the way they did in the end.

A great low-fantasy read! Enough world building to be intriguing, but not so much that you have to go back & reread to keep track.
I loved the inspiration from traditional Leprechauns, but this book really creates it’s very own feel and perspective.
The characters have good evolution and definitely pull at your heartstrings.

Boy was this hard to finish. I could not get into the story line or the character development. It felt haphazard in many ways. I powered through for the sake of my reading challenge but was very tempted to just abandon it for another title.

I enjoyed the fact that this book avoided a lot of the main fantasy tropes. At times the setting changed abruptly which I found jarring but in a good way.

Cute! Not amazing and a bit rushed in my opinion but I enjoyed the story nevertheless

Leprechauns?

So Tommin is a Leprechaun in training . . . The background story was great. The fact that it jumps forward from the 19th to the 21st century . . . Even better. I liked it.
