i really liked this book in the beginning but as soon as they did the deed i felt like was reading a completely different book and it went down hill from there. DNF.

I love the setting, the time period. Putting it mildly here, the hero was not endearing to me. AT ALL.

You know how some bodice-rippers are not so bad even when you give them a chance? This is not one of them.

Oof that was a mess. Bradford was so unlikeable and lacked any redeemable qualities.

Angela is the daughter of a dirt-poor Alabama farmer, but she is in love with the son of the richest man in the area. Through a series of strange luck, she gets him - but can they hold onto each other?

Johanna Lindsey is a bit of an acquired taste, and in this book she failed utterly to hold onto me. The characters were bland, the twists and turns contrived, and I never got a sense of high stakes. But the writing was still fun enough.

That man has "wife beater" written all over him in big block letters.

Also the truly mindboggling happy slave narrative. That, too.

Catching up with an author whose books I have always loved reading! Historical Romance genre is itself very appealing so when the Western ruggedness gets added to it, it becomes a winning option. Angela and Bradford's story however lagged a lot, Bradford is shown as a very short tempered and jealous lover but the after a few 100 pages the jealousy begins to grate. And of course every breathing living person wanting Angela in their bed became boring after a while. The whole book could have been shorter with 100 pages less which would have made it interesting but the hero misunderstanding, heroine running away, hero following again misunderstanding, well..u get the picture..again cut the 100 pages away and I would have enjoyed it more. But as I love reading these books just for the sake of mindless reading, it was ok for me.

I love all of Johanna Lindsey's novels. And this one does not disappoint. I have already read this one once and am reading it again.
