This book was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m so happy I read it. I'll admit, the language was a bit tricky at first, but once I got the hang of it, I was fully sucked in by the story and the characters. Boyne's storytelling was so good that I felt like I was right there with them. Despite the language being a bit tough at first, I had a great time reading it.

Touching and fun. Very enjoyable even as an adult reader.

It takes quite a while to paint the picture and get to the juicy parts, but I enjoyed it all the same!

Al parecer incluye un guiño al protagonista de [b:The Thief of Time|48004|The Thief of Time|John Boyne|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1311981708l/48004._SY75_.jpg|46977] que pongo por si acaso en mi To Read.

I’ve loved just about all John Boyne’s books so decided to listen to this on Audible. The subject matter was one I’d not normally choose, but I found myself engrossed by it. Now looking up the events to see how close they are to the novel, though I understand that they may still be in contention

I love John Boyne's writing but I have to say this isn't my favorite of his books. As usual, he does an excellent job of really opening up his characters to the readers. However, I felt like this book could be about 1/2 the current length. If it had, I'm sure my rating would have been much higher. I didn't really know the story of the HMS Bounty and this book has caused me to want to do some further research. I did find myself not wanting to put it down towards the end but not enough for me to recommend it to other readers.

3.5? I came to this having read the Caroline Alexander history of the mutiny and not much else, so it was interesting to see it unfold from a fictional narrative angle this time, although the mutiny itself happens very late in the book. (There were ups and downsides to the choice of narrator, I felt, because he misses most of what's going down with the mutiny.)

Boyne definitely seemed focused on rehabilitating Captain Bligh's character, and that's cool, I think he did a really good job of making him seem a Good Man At Heart, and I knowwww much was done previously to make Fletcher Christian seem heroic and whatever, and I am fine with him being the true villain of the piece, but I'm still going to say it: Fletcher Christian is my favourite and I would have liked to see more of him, because in this version his character remained mostly opaque to us. And the best part of this book was already the aftermath of the mutiny with Bligh, but I wished we could've somehow had a glimpse of the post-mutiny mutineer side too.

(Sidenote: if I never have to read the phrase "gave me the motions" ever again in my life it'll still be too soon.)
