A new twist on Atlantis

This was an interesting book. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but once I got started I couldn’t stop reading. Lyric is a fun and well rounded character that I just want to see succeed. There were plenty of twists and turns so now I’m anxiously awaiting the next part of the saga. Happy reading everyone!

Excellent introduction to a brand new world

There are many young adult books that start off with a bewildered hero, but few get thrown into the mess of things as quickly as Lycia does in this book. One minute a waitress dealing with drunks, the next trying to stay alive against a group trying to eat you, or worse. Nice take on the Atlantis myth and I’ll be curious to see if the power structure changes as the books continue. Recommended

Lyric has led a rough life. An abusive mother who left her with nothing upon her passing. She's always late for work at the job she took over that her mother had. Once again she's late & her boss fires her, but she begs him for one more chance, which he begrudgingly gives her. A very busy evening turns in to a brawl between a few customers, & she is told that the boy she had a crush on in school wants to hang out with her at a beach party. She plans on going home, but as she's walking past the entrance to the beach, music calls to her & she heads to the beach. Events happen & she ends up in a cave with 2 strangers who try to tell her that they are there to help & protect her. She tries to escape & the next thing she knows, she wakes up at home with no knowledge of how she got there. The night before starts to come back to her & she knows that she needs to run, but again, tragedy strikes in the form of a massive house fire. She once again meets up with the 2 from the cave & a group of supernatural law officers out to arrest her. She completes a blood oath to attend the Atlantis Academy hoping for a new beginning. Upon getting there for orientation, she realizes that the Academy is not much different from high school--cute boys & mean girls.

Lyric is an interesting character who has faced lots of trials & tribulations throughout her young life. Some of the characters met over halfway thru the story don't have well-developed personalities, but I'm hoping they get expounded on in future books. Book 1 does end on a cliffhanger & I'm looking forward to book 2.
