4.5 Bruiser/Bombshell Stars!
I love this series and the characters so much!
Sylvie and Anton are no exception.
Two main characters are athletes, I LOVE it!
Sylvie is an extremely likable female character, I really adored her personality AND her actions.
She was strong, kind and allowed herself to be vulnerable. I respect that so much.
Anton is coming back from scandal and a bad hockey season. He’s very determined to be better and focused. He’s hilarious and really sexy.

He stole my heart with his interactions with the teens he and Sylvie worked with for community/charity work. That had me swooning-hook, line and sinker. I was completely gone for him and in love!
Two hockey hotties + a strong attraction with a bit of a complication = hot, fun and steamy times!
Not too angsty, just enough conflict without too much drama.
The story and characters kept me completely interested and engaged.
Lots of laughs, heart and chemistry.
The secondary characters are really amazing and are vital to the story.
I adore this story and characters!

This has been a hard reading year for me. I’ve been generally unmotivated to start new books, but I requested an arc of Bombshells because duh, it’s Sarina. I told myself to just read the first page and if I didn’t feeling like reading I would try again the next day because reading slumps are real folks. Well I am here to report that one page was not enough! I ended up reading half the book before taking a break! I didn’t want to put it down and was reminded why I love, love, love to read. This book is why. Bombshells is why. Sarina is why.

Bombshells had something extra. It definitely felt like a Sarina book, but somehow it was more. I liked the depth and the details of Sylvie’s personality. I loved hearing about her overcoming her challenges and her relationship with her mom. I loved how fresh it felt. There were a few times I thought I knew what was going to happen but I loved that I was wrong. Sylvie’s character did a remarkable job demonstrating that life doesn’t always go as planned and sometimes that can be the best scenario possible. She teaches the reader that its ok to let go of your plan and change course. I really felt that by the end and I think that is an important and powerful concept in leading a happy life.

5 stars for Bombshells- one of my favorite Sarina Bowen books.

Audiobook Review

Sarina Bowen delivers another hit in her long-running Brooklyn Bruisers/Brooklyn series. Bombshells spins something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue into a delightful sports romance.

Something old: Eight or so standalone stories into the series and I’m still in love with my Brooklyn Bruisers pro hockey team. What a colorful cast of characters. Their significant others are just as wonderful—if not more—and I was happy to steal another moment with them. We met Anton Bayer aka “Baby Bayer” in Sure Shot, and I respect the mature man he has become.

Something new: The women are in the clubhouse! Rebecca Kattenberger is the proud new owner of the Brooklyn Bombshells, a professional women’s hockey team. The changes it brings to the Bruisers organization are eye-opening and humorous—from the pay disparity between the men’s and women’s leagues to the men’s reactions to boutique shower gel in their locker room. Sylvie is a goalie for the Bombshells and an all-around gem.

Something borrowed: There are echoes of the well-known best friend’s sister trope used here, but leave it to Sarina Bowen to put a spin on it. Anton has vowed to make hockey his sole focus this season after earning a reputation the previous year for partying and womanizing. His attraction to Sylvie is an unexpected complication, especially since she is like a sister to Anton’s teammate, Bryce Campo, and therefore off limits. Or does Bryce have romantic feelings for Sylvie himself? Whether it’s a love triangle or a forbidden romance or both, I’ll let you figure out.

Something blue: Sylvie is still mourning the loss of her mother. I enjoyed the creative way her mom’s presence is felt throughout the story.

The progression of the romance between Anton and Sylvie is sweet, hot, and simply wonderful. I also appreciated the Bombshells side of the story. I liked getting to know the women, seeing them bond as a new team, and the way Sylvie fights to keep her position. This book is highly entertaining, and I hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the Bombshells.

About the audiobook:
The Bombshells audiobook is phenomenal. I'm unfamiliar with Patrick Zeller's previous work, but I haven't been this impressed by a vocal performance in a long time. He gives a distinct voice to each character, and the words are delivered with great emotion. I’m no expert in accents, but my one complaint is that his French accent sounds Russian/Spanish to me at times. Desireé Ketchum is a new-to-me narrator as well, and she is flawlessly expressive. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook.
