ending off my year with a bang- this book is a definite 4.5/5 stars!
First off, I wouldn't read this book and think of it as another Six of Crows book...because that wouldn't do either book justice. For one, the worldbuilding in this book definitely could have used some work, and honestly the main character frustrated me a lot at times because it seemed as though she didn't have any common sense. However, I did fall in love with New Reynes, Levi, Jac, and Lola as the book continued. This was a really good debut and I look forward to the second book as well!

I liked this, but I have a very strong feeling that if I hadn't listened to it on audio, I wouldn't have liked it anywhere near as well. It seems like I would have gotten bored in parts.

I enjoyed this a lot! Would have liked it even more if I wasn't kind of in a reading slump, but I would definitely recommend it!
It kind of had Six of Crows / The Mirror Visitor / Spirited Away vibes; the setting was very well done. I'm kind of tired of YA protagonists that at 17 and already super successful and grown up and have a dark past, and I'm also tired of the mandatory romance between main characters, but despite that I actually did like the two main characters - Enne especially had a very satisfying character arc.

It’s 3:14am , and I’ve just finished. I don’t remember the last time I’ve stayed up this late to read so it really says something

A good time. From the very beginning I was intrigued with both Enne and Levi, as well the idea of blood and split talents. The city of New Reynes and Levi are very reminiscent of Six of Crows' Ketterdam and Kaz Brekker. I would describe Levi as a Kaz but more vulnerable.

Enne is also a very charismatic character. She's tough and doesn't beat around the bush, all while highly aware of her own shortcomings. Her hunt for her mother never slows and she handles all of the obstacles thrown at her with grace. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment in the Ace of Shades' world and I plan to tackle the monster of a sequel soon. I would highly recommend this novel to fans of Six of Crows and House of Earth and Blood.

Ok so I loved the characters in this book. The City was so interesting, it gave me a stream punk dystopian sort of vibe. I just wish there was more to the plot and the was more depth in the characters.

This was such a fun book. I loved the magic system and the talents.. I want to know more about them. Also, I loved the threat of the shadow game, and how it was played. There is so much more to learn about The City of Sin, and I can’t wait.

I liked Enne, Levi, Jac, and Lola as characters, and I am excited to see them fleshed out more in future books..

There was however some instalust, and a girl who is a special snowflake.. but what bugged me most of all was the made up swear word.. every time I read the words ‘muck’ or ‘mucking’ ... I rolled my eyes. Just don’t make up a word for swearing.. it’s so annoying and pulled me out of the story,

Spoiler I don’t believe that Lourdes is actually dead.. I just have a feeling..
