I didn't find the events or characters very believable but the drawing is lovely. This story didn't really do it for me, but I would/will read more from Cathy G Johnson.

Not every story needs to be written down.

"I've always known exactly what I want from life. Even when I was a kid. To do whatever I fucking want. So that's what I do!"

A quick, sketchy black and white comic about two jerks who destroy other people's property and (almost) lives. The POV changes a couple times (I first assumed the guy on stage was the main character, only for him to disappear on page 3), and the real protagonist, Sophie, is introduced halfway through as someone quiet and diligent - the exact opposite of the boys we started the book with. There's a scare towards the end that ties the two stories together a little more. I would have liked more content - this feels more like a short story, or a chapter of something else. I think it would be really cool if the author kept going - kept telling stories of physical or emotional collisions between strangers and continuing the story that way.

A sparse, spare, and rather enigmatic work of everyday youthful aimlessness and betrayal, Gorgeous features a small cast of young adults trying to make sense of their lives being thrust randomly into each others. A small story, this comic could be absorbed in a matter of minutes but the themes and characters have definitely stayed with me. Not unlike “real life,” though there is little plot to the proceedings and it begins and ends with little resolution.

The story follows a couple of aimless punks, thinking their irresponsible and hedonistic lifestyle amounts for a philosophy, as they nearly collide with an equally aimless college student at a local private institution on an empty freeway after viewing a gorgeous bolide hitting the atmosphere. Their reactions to each other as they wait for transportation at a local all night diner illustrate how people seem unable to connect to each other, especially in a period of life when they might not even know themselves.

However, it might just be too brief, like a chapter from a longer work. We definitely want to know more about the characters involved, and what happens to them after this strange, long night, whether anything changes after their encounter, whether any insights or life changes result from this random encounter.
