This was an interesting book, but novelty may account for some of that, as I have never read anything like this before. Unfortunately, it suffered from an ailment common to memoir-type books - a complete lack of organization or a discernible point. Although engagingly written, towards the end, the lack of organization and the rambling nature was driving me crazy.

This was the biggest surprise of 2013 for me. Picked it up on a whim (and on the recommendation of Anthony Bourdain) and was just blown away. Rinella perfectly, succinctly and convincingly answers the question that so many people ask: Why do we still hunt? I will definitely seek out more from this author.

Steve seems to be the guy that has a story for everything, and I enjoyed the history and introspection in this book, especially of the last chapter.

This was pretty interesting - and gave me a bit of a craving for venison! I liked the perspective he brought to a very contentious issue which people are generally pretty firm in their opinions on. He readily conceded that he was unlikely to change anyone's views of hunting and thus didn't come across as whiny or preachy.

I love books about the outdoors. They always bring out that 12 year old part of me that used to go out and explore the wilderness. This is a great book on ethics of hunting and really a fresh perspective on a vanishing way of life. Steve Rinella is one of my favorite people in this medium and if your at all interested in why hunters do what they do... This is something you should read.
