The concept of just how big the biggest thing is was explained beautifully.

I'll read almost anything with a whale on it regardless of the target audience. This was a nice science book that demonstrated the concept of size and space. By comparing big things to other big things and then even bigger things, the author makes the concept of galaxies and the universe much easier to grasp at an elementary level.

A nice concept book on relative size. Useful for units on measurement or the solar system (the book quickly moves from comparing living things to discussing outer space.)

It is a comparison book that starts off with a whale being the biggest animal on the planet but that doesn't make it the biggest thing of all. It goes on to say that a bunch of blue whales stacked in jars are only a small portion of Mt. Everest's peak. That example follows through the rest of the book. I would use this in a 2nd grade class or beyond.

This was an amazing science book that I enjoyed just as much my son did. The author did a great job putting the size of the things in the universe and beyond in perspective, and the illustrations to accompany each analogy were humorous and memorable. I highly recommend this book!
