Really enjoy these, so glad there’s another two to go at.
Incredible. It's full of plot twists, is expertly researched, and it vividly brings the political and social turmoil of 1920s Kolkata to life. It's easily one of the best books I've read this year.

This third book in the Sam Wyndham series opens with Sam Wyndham still battling his addition to opium after having been given morphine to lessen his pain when he was badly wounded during WWI. As he leaves an opium den, he stumbles across a murder victim. He cannot call the police because he is a member of the Calcutta police force. He flees the den by going across the nearby rooftops and is chased other police officers. He can’t investigate the murder of the man he found until another man has been murdered in much the same way and Sam is assigned the case to investigate along with his partner Sergeant Surendranath Banerjee
This is a wonderfully written historical mystery with well-conceived characters and a complex storyline with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the satisfying ending.
If you love historical mysteries set in unusual locales and a touch of romance, this book should be moved to the top of your to-be-read list. You needn’t have read the first two books in the series to enjoy this one.
