I’ve sat on this one for a while... Originally gave it two stars, but I feel better giving it one star for all of the narrative inconsistencies, and a general lack of logic. I’m particularly bothered that the lead character (and only female represented) is a WOC but for all that this fact is hammered into the narrative, it is rendered inconsequential by her original existence as an upper class white woman. And why is her love interest so decidedly Irish, even when other characters have interchangeable places of origin or even gender? It can’t possibly be because the Irish accent is so singularly, fockin’ sexy, now can it? Jaysus, save and preserve us.

We have ourselves a stereotypical love triangle and no one is likeable. The love interest has no foundation, it’s instantaneous and exceptionally dubious. The sudden and decided antagonism of an otherwise placid character is unbelievable, and why. Why? would anyone feel the need to chase such an uninteresting woman for revenge purposes that are entirely unnecessary across unexplained planes of space, time, and existence? There is a total lack of comprehensible philosophy here. Why do these characters live multiple lives? Why them? Why should we give a damn about them, let them have their squabbles, it doesn’t affect the rest of us plebeians in the least. The arbitrary choice of dates and times? Exactly that. Arbitrary.

God, I’m annoyed. Do contemporary authors conveniently choose not to plan plot points or interesting characters anymore?

K.M. Rice will always surprise you

I've read Darkling, and Watcher, and now I'm so glad I've finally Finished Ophelia. K.M. Rice is one of my favorite indie authors, she always does what I don't expect and it's always amazing. I can't wait for the next book!
