A great final installment of this trilogy. Had a lot of fun reading these books. The first book starts as a goofy little rom com and by the third book it has evolved into a multi-generational family drama. Rachel, the main character of books one and two, is hardly even in this one! I think it is a testament to the author that he is able to keep the audience engaged while focusing on characters who were minor players in the first two novels.
Could not put this one down for the last 150 pages… so many different storylines all coming to their conclusion and tying together in the most unexpected ways.
I do wish there had been a bit more flashbacks of Su Yi’s earlier life during the war, I was really into those parts. But the book is already like 550 pages so I understand why there wasn’t a huge focus on the historical aspect of the story. I also love how the characters evolved from the first book to this one, especially Kitty. The first book she’s this naive gold digger (for lack of a better word), and by the end of this one she is the most influential character in the story! She was so entertaining throughout the whole trilogy.
As always, I adore Astrid and I really liked that her story didn’t end in her getting immediately remarried.
I will probably reread this series in the future, it’s a great summer read.

This book's storyline was a little more all over the place, I felt like Kwan tried to cram a lot of plot into one book, and it was good and quite an enjoyable read, but I found myself thinking Really? Now this? over and over again as I was reading.
I'm glad I took the time to read these three books. A lot of fun, and reads like a tv drama in book form.
Side note:

I wish we had learned even more about his grandmother, I felt like this part was skimped over a little, but LOVE the idea of Tyersall Park being made into a historic sight and Kitty buying in just so Colette won't get to buy it. Plus I totally called Colette "getting" the house once you knew they'd be putting it up for sale. Her accident was a bit of shock though (no pun intended).I'm glad I took the time to read these three books. A lot of fun, and reads like a tv drama in book form.

Kitty really annoyed the sh out of me in this book after she was a pretty good character in the last book, so I am glad she redeemed herself at the end.silverkelpie's review against another edition

I really liked this. I was feeling sympathetic toward Kitty Pong by the end of the last book, so I was a bit disappointed to see her be almost villainous in this one, but it worked very well with the overall plot and I liked how it turned out in the end. And I loved the ending: it was a wonderful way to wrap up both the book and the series.
