I really don't know how you write a whole book on Contemporary Women's Gothic Fiction while never once mentioning Shirley Jackson or Tanith Lee. It wasn't a time period issue -- the author picked up on Du Maurier & Rhys without issue. It's just this bizarre gaping hole through the middle of half the book.

in the chapters on vampires wisker struggles a little bit with not deadnaming and misgendering trans authors she is quoting which, frankly, robs her of any authority with which to say anything meaningful about the fascination vampires exert. Other than that, ok
