I thought I would like this since is short, dark and surreal but I ended up disappointed by the book.

this was my favorite quote: “Los besos atan las bocasen una maraña de venas recientesy al que le duele su dolor le dolerá sin descansoy al que teme la muerte la llevará sobre sus hombros.”

I think my biggest issue with this book is that it uses bigger words and it’s really abstract and it doesn’t really work for me, not because I am not smart enough to understand because I think that the meaning gets so twisted while you are trying to decode it that it turns into a fog of thoughts :(

the apotheosis of lyrical beauty to a borderline overwhelming degree. perennially modern and the most sensual gay poetry ever written. sorry whitman and cavafis.

Really disturbing imagery. I really enjoyed Lorca’s honed focus here; the way he encapsulates the disorientation and unsettling sensations of being in an unknown place felt transformative and truly evoked his internal turmoil. Unlike in Romancero gitano, many of these poems lacked conventional structure and thus felt less memorable. Also the thematic existentialism throughout made some sections pretty tough to read.

A genuinely amazing collection. I haven't been moved by poetry like this in a long time, but there were definitely some poems that stood out more than others. I thought this gave an amazing portrait of Lorca's life and his experience of New York as a city, and his use of language and imagery was astounding in its surrealism.
The end of the book contains his letters to his family from Columbia and I had a fun time reading them. Nice to know he was asking his parents to give him money to live too.

Another stunning collection of poems - very moving. I have to admit I was less interested in the letters and lectures in the latter half of the book, but I do appreciate the glimpse into his life beyond poetry.
