After finishing the previous book in this series I couldn't wait to join the Wild Aces again, so I dove into Into the Blue excited to see what would happen next. Into the Blue is Thor/Eric's story with his ex Becca. There are a lot of unresolved issues with this couple, a broken engagement, different dreams and career choices driving a wedge between them, and forcing them to go thier separate ways. For Eric his dream was the air force, but with that comes a lot of instability, traveling, and with no guarantee of a future. For Becca her dream was to become an attorney, but that means studying and staying in one place, especially if her credentials aren't accepted in another state and she has to start from the beginning again.

After the events in the previous book, Eric is struggling to come to terms with it all, especially when he finds himself in the same situation and metres from death himself. This is the wake up call that he needed, and he takes leave and returns home to Bradbury, to shake the demons and figure out what he wants from life. This is where he bumps into his ex, and finds his feeling for her didn't subside, and they resurface stronger than ever.
Becca isn't happy to see him back home, and is determined to send him packing back to the air base. But this couple soon find themselves being the shoulder to cry on for the other, the person who will listen to your feelings and worries, but someone who also understands every single thing you have gone through.

Into the Blue was a book I fell into easily. I loved that we get to see life on the air base, but also life away, and I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of being away from it all. This also gives us an insight into how being in the air force affects family life, the job role and process of training and moving up the ladder, the upheaval, the deployment, and what options are available when you do leave. There is no routine, no promise to be home for bed, birthdays, or holidays. The air force becomes you life, and this was the main issue for Eric, wanting to be the best at his job and the sacrifices he made to get where he is, leaving no time for personal life or future.

I liked the progression of this story within Into the Blue, and that even though there was a lot of history between the characters you don't feel like you are missing out on anything, that you get to take this journey with Becca and Eric as they do, makes it feel new. I liked that we get to see the rest of the gang, and see what they are up to now.

Final Verdict
I really enjoyed reading Into the Blue and I am eager to make a start on the net book as soon as possible.

As soon as I had finished Fly With Me by Chanel Cleeton, I couldn't wait to dive into Into the Blue. I really loved the first book in the series and couldn't wait to get more of these sexy fighter pilots. Into the Blue was really good as well, and I enjoyed reading it a lot. This series is definitely one worth checking out if you haven't already and I highly recommend reading these in order if possible. It isn't necessary, but the characters are interconnected and I think it really adds to the enjoyment to start at the beginning and see how each of these characters changes over the course of the series not to mention there are some things that will be spoiled if you don't start at the beginning.

Eric Jansen (Thor) loves his job and flying but after a tragic loss, he finds himself struggling a bit. Needing to get his head on straight, he heads home to South Carolina determined to figure things out. But when he runs into the only girl he has ever loved, he realizes that there might be more for him to work out than he thought. Becca Madison has tried for ten years to forget the boy who broke her heart, but when she comes face to face with Eric all the feelings they once shared come back stronger than ever. Eric knows that he threw away the best thing that ever happened to him when he dumped her and broke their engagement, but can he win her back after all this time when the reasons they broke up in the first place are all still there?

I really liked Eric and Becca. These two had such a strong connection and chemistry. It was clear right away that love was never their problem. Each of them had dreams, and those dreams didn't exactly mesh well together when it came to their relationship and the future. Eric broke Becca's heart, but it was easy to see that he had been hurting too. I hated that he had dumped her and that all that time had gone by, but because of their ages and his reasons for it, I completely understood it even when I didn't like it. It was nice to see that while a lot had changed over the years, everything that had been between them had not. It really felt so natural and perfect between these two that I knew right away that they were meant for one another.

I will say that while I enjoyed this one a lot, this book didn't pack quite the same punch the first one did. It didn't seem to have the same intensity or emotion the first one did, and I found myself missing the camaraderie between the guys that the first book had. Into the Blue focused a lot more on Eric and Becca, and while I did enjoy that I also wanted to see her transition into his world a bit more. It just felt like they were so far removed from all it because he was on leave and most of this story happened away from what the norm would be for these two moving forward. Like the first book, this one ended pretty abruptly and it felt really rushed to me. I don't know if this is a trend with Chanel Cleeton or maybe just this series, but if the next book is anything like this one, there will be a jump in time between the end of this book and the start of the next one. I would have loved to have been given an epilogue or something to kind of ease from this book to the next. While I do like how things ended in this one as in the first, it just felt like the author ran out of steam when she got to the end and again it didn't seem to do the story justice. While I had hoped for more of the previous characters in this book to kind of wrap their story up (and we did see some of them), this book didn't really give me that sense of satisfaction that I had been hoping for after the rushed ending of the first one, so I am not holding out a ton of hope that I will get that in the next book either. I do really like this series though, and the next book is the one I have been waiting for! Easy's story was one I wanted immediately after finishing Fly With Me, and I am so excited after reading the snippet at the end of Into the Blue. It is currently set to release at the start of 2017 though, so we have quite a wait for it. Even with the few criticisms I had here though, this series is one that I am really enjoying and would recommend for fans of contemporary romance.

Review:

If you regularly read my blog/reviews it should be no surprise that Into the Blue was one of my most anticipated books for this year! I have enjoyed all of Chanel Cleeton’s books and I’m always anxious to get my hands on her new releases. I was most excited about Into the Blue‘s premise of a second-chance love story. Second chance romances are among my top three favorite romantic story lines. There’s just something about a couple “rekindling an old flame”.

We are introduced to Eric (call sign Thor) briefly in Fly With Me and it’s clear that there’s definitely the ghost of an ex that still haunts him. After the events of Fly With Me, Eric is dealing with some serious emotional fall-out. He decides he needs to take a break before he puts his life, and the life of his squadron, in jeopardy. After a recent run-in with his ex-fiancee, Becca, Eric decides to head back to his hometown.

It’s been 10 long years since Eric left Becca behind to become an F16 fighter pilot. However, not a day goes by that Eric doesn’t think of Becca and how he destroyed her heart by breaking off their engagement. Becca is now a successful lawyer in their hometown, hell bent on bringing justice to people who have faced tragedy at the hands of others. When Eric returns, it’s clear Becca is not ready to forgive and forget and attempts to avoid Eric at all costs.

As the reader, Eric’s reasons for leaving Becca are clear but two big questions linger: will Eric be able to convince Becca he made a mistake and he’s ready to be the man she needs? Will Becca forgive Eric?

I’m usually apprehensive towards anyone who has broken someone’s heart the way Eric broke Becca’s but ultimately I was swayed to team Becca and Eric. It’s apparent that the chemistry between them is more than physical, they’re like family. I loved how Becca made Eric work for every inch she gave him. I respected that she took her time to make sure she knew what she wanted with regards to Eric and his career in the military. Becca and Eric know that neither one is willing to walk away from their careers but neither is sure how to compromise to fit the other into their respective lives.

"It seemed like my entire adult life had been spent either running from or to this one girl. She was the compass when I was so lost I couldn’t find my way."

One of my favorite things about this series is that the male characters are genuinely good guys. They want what’s best for the women in their lives and do everything they can to make them happy. I loved that Eric put so much effort in to making Becca a priority in his life when he could have easily decided it was too much effort to make up for the past.

This series is one of my new favorites. It’s blends real life situations with sweet and simmering romance. The characters are well-rounded and the plots are engaging. If you’re looking for a series that’s feel-good romance with a bit of steam, look no further than the Wild Aces series.

This was a great book! I loved how the author broke down the chapters between the views of Becca and Thor. It made it so easy to follow along with their story, especially since the story spanned a decade. This book gives us a glimpse into the life of a fighter pilot and the sacrifices they and their families make. I was thrilled there was a happy ending!

I received this book in a giveaway from goodreads.com.

Selfish H

No love story. A man using an ex to put himself back together and then chiding himself over her again. And she basically follows him like a puppy. Gross.

Not as good as the first book, but still a solid second chance romance. The excerpt for Easy and Dani's story has me on pins and needles!!!

Second-chance-at-love stories are my favorite, and this one did not disappoint! Becca and Eric have a lot to overcome: their history, their careers, the prying eyes of their small town, but I enjoyed watching them work through their feeling and issues like adults. As with the first book in the series, there is plenty of humor, heart, and heat.

I am convinced this is what Chanel Cleeton was thinking when she wrote these books...

Fly With Me: I will make you laugh until you cry. And you will love it.

Into The Blue: I will make you laugh while simultaneously kicking you in the feels. And you will love it.

On Broken Wings: I.will.gut.you. And you will love it.

But it's cool because Fighter Pilots.
