First, the narrator on here may be good at other books but this is not his cup of tea. He didn’t read the characters correctly and it made the whole thing really hard to listen to. Second, the writing is just plain bad. This story had such potential but it was executed horrifically. The grammar and dialogue didn’t flow well throughout the story and just made it choppy. The characters acted in ways that aren’t believable for their age. You can tell what the writers pet peeves are in other stories because they were weirdly specific in certain instances that you could tell they had to act that way to make him feel better. <br /><br />Overall, just don’t read this book. And if you absolutely have to, read it yourself instead of listening to it.

The story itself was interesting but I had some issues with the writing/delivery of ideas as well as the worldbuilding. The book was both slow and rushed in various parts. It was a real slog to finish in the end as I couldn't shake off the problems I noticed.

Neat concept! The writing style tends to do more telling than showing. At times the plot points come a bit out of nowhere, and the magic system isn’t set up or explained very well. It seemed like plot points came up and got dropped without a lot of warning. Overall I like the idea and the exploration of this genre with different and diverse characters, but it wasnt really my style.

Feels like the rest of the book is going to be very romance focused and I was reading this book for horror but it really just feels like a dark fantasy with a special MC that saves the day. Also like who just shoves food into someone's mouth after having like only 3 conversations with them ... And then not even waiting for them to finish the food to decide it's time to leave? I really wanted to find out about the curse and what the headmaster means when he keeps saying they're going to change the world, but I don't think it's worth the effort to wade through the romance and assumed misdirections.

Nope, not for me. DNF at 40%

I was expecting horror, instead got some sort of cursed/chosen one/magical story. With an added romance. I felt the pacing was off, the book felt extremely long it felt like everything was revealed in the beginning and the plot wasn't wasn't actually progressing.

Too repetitive and boring even listening at 1.25 speed. The nail in the coffin was "I've never said I was gay before... it felt like too much to admit--" after constantly referring to himself as queer.
