The usual disclaimer: I don't read a lot of poetry and I'm not knowledgeable about what's supposed to be "good," I just know what I like. And I liked this collection. The poems deal with grief, love and family, sensuality, nature and poetry itself, and include various forms of verse, all characterized by direct, powerful language and vivid images. But the best thing is that the poems have a rhythm and musicality that just invites them to be read out loud. My favorite is one called "What you allow, lingers," which exhorts us to "turn a cold shoulder to bigotry" and "usher in joy like a long lost friend."
