Shadows of Self is the second book in Mistborn Era 2, the fifth book in the whole series, and it continues to maintain the wonderful legacy that is The Mistborn Saga.

With the wonderful wit from Wayne (apologies for the alliteration), the thrilling plots often driven by Wax, and the grounding character that is Marasi, I can only speak highly of this book. The new Scadrial created by Sazed has been further developed, as a reader we are given even more insight into this fascinating place. This happens through the plot naturally unfolding but also interspersed newspaper clippings at the end of each chapter, which is ultimately incredibly charming. If I were to have one critique, I would say that I wished it were longer. One of my favourite parts of the first series was you felt how grand and heavy the problems that affected the characters and the world were. This often is not the same in the second trilogy, occasionally feeling rushed. However, I have seen this exact critique reversed with the original Mistborn books.

To summarise, good book, read it!
