This book was so wonderful. The opening line pulled me in and I was sold for the rest. This was one of those books where the conflict could have been resolved if everyone just talked about things, but at the same time each character’s reasoning for not wanting to talk felt believable and genuine. There were moments of true love and joy that didn’t make this book feel too depressing, despite the serious themes. This book made my heart full and sad at the same time.

Couldn’t stand the narration. So many awkward pauses.

Stunning

This book is a honest, in-depth look into lives of people impacted by secrets and the desire to help others. It explores how people can heal, if it is ever too late for redemption and allows readers to understand why people run and why they stay. Heartbreaking and beautiful.

Día de los Muertos intrigues me. This book gives me a little insight on that holiday. Isabel first meets her deceased father-in-law on her wedding day since she and Martin got married on the Day of the Dead. Omar visits her every year there after seeking redemption from his family. As the book unfolds, stories are told and secrets are revealed we discover why Omar needs Isabel's help to bridge the gap between him and his family.
