Look, I think this is a me problem.

I've been in a kind of quasi-reading slump during October and I really hoped I would enjoy this! I loved Tress and Yumi, and am, of course, a big fan of Brandon's! The author's note at the end was wonderful and definitely enough to add another level of appeal to this book for me.

But I just... could not get into it. It felt like a chore to read for the most part. I always felt at arms' length from the characters, unable to connect with them, and this story just lacked soul for me—which is so uncharacteristic of Brandon's books and the impact they have on me, hence why I think it's a me problem. But I just don't think I was the target audience for this book and I do believe it will work for so many others. There were some really lovely moments in this book, hence why I feel guilty rating it just 3 stars, but overall it was an experience which left me lacking, wishing for something more.
