I read this book about eight years ago, and was very much impressed with the stories about elephants with trauma's and PTSD. I did reread it recently, and found it partly dated, which is a good sign, for it means in a number of area's situations improved for elephants. I also found myself less happy with the frequent comparison of the plight of elephants with the holocaust, a comparison which should be avoided, for more often than not it will be severely lacking! Actually, there simply is no comparison! There are enough other significant possibilities to address the way we mistreat elephants and other animals. That's why I give the book a rather low ranking this time.
