Loved this look into Christopher’s world but it just makes me want more. Haha. Literally sobbed at the end of this. I really hope he finds his way back. 😢

"Skeleton Song" works well enough how it is, but I can't help but feel frustrated that this isn't just a full story like the other main books in the series! The world Christopher has stumbled into in this one, Mariposa, is so unique and richly imagined that simply getting a little taste of it here is ultimately unsatisfying, especially if you have read the other books with Christopher and gotten the other parts of his story.

One of my favorite parts of this series is playing around in all kinds of different worlds. Some worlds make sense, others don't. Some worlds are dark, others are light. Every world is the perfect mix of beauty and danger. Every world is the almost right fit for the kid stumbling into it. I absolutely LOVED this world. It was dark, it was twisted, it was beautiful, it was atmospheric, it was vivid and in a way it was scary and soothing at once. I also loved this story in general. Especially the ending. The heartbreaking ending we know is coming. Fingers crossed that my copy of the eighth book will arrive soon!

This was hauntingly beautiful, and I am so pleased to have read it at what seems to be just the right time. Immaculate, as ever.

The back story of Christopher and his bone flute. I found this charming and sad in the way that all back stories are for Seanan McGuire.

My rating system
1 - Did not enjoy
2 - Not irredeemable but has too many flaws to say I enjoyed
3 - Enjoyed it
4 - Great book but didn't love it
5 - Amazing book
