If there's one thing I've learned in my long life, it's that every villain thinks they're the hero of their own story.

I feel burning hatred for Rhian that's for sure. I don't remember much of the book, but something "snake" remained, small flashes and parts, but not much. Tedros and Agatha's case could have been solved smoothly with a little talk, but talking is obviously for the weak lol so the miscommunating trope works. The end knocked me off my chair, the commissioner, and my jaw is still on the floor.

I think this is my favorite book so far in the series, except for all the ignoring between king and princess in the beginning of the book. Also, I know there are two books after this one, but I didn’t like the cliffhanger ending. I know you are trying to sell more books, but it would be nice to have a closed ending for those who do not want to continue the series.

These books look so impressive on the shelf and have quite a lot of pages and yet once I start it’s hard to stop. I read this one almost in one go (I just had to have lunch somewhere in between, because my stomach really needed it) and I really enjoyed every page and every chapter.

The story starts right where the previous trilogy stopped, but we’re now following the fourth year students on their quests. I especially really liked that Tedros got more point of view chapters and that we got to spend more time in his head. He’s not a typical prince (like nothing in this book is typical), but that makes him so interesting.

And not just Tedros made me really feel for him. All the others did too. What makes this book, apart from the toying, flipping and playing with fairytale tropes, so lovely is that each and every character is understandable and that it’s easy to relate to them and connect with them. They might face unusual problems, but they’re also very human.

They mess up and make mistakes (and make me scream when they do so, because I care about them and don’t want bad things happening to them) and they are insecure and vulnerable. And all those characters are so unique and different. And every time I’ve decided who’s my favorite, I end up doubting again in the next chapter.

The plot was, after reading as much as I do, at times quite predictable, especially the finale, but that didn’t bother me. I like it when things are built up properly and then lead to an amazing and breathtaking fall out.

I really hope that the next book will be just as gripping and fun!
