been meaning to read more classical chinese poetry for aaages so i'm glad i found this on hoopla!! almost made me cry because i got so overwhelmed by the idea of universal human experiences, it was so good, 10/10



jade tower's dark
in the new moon,

gauze lace, lowered in
the fresh wind.

we savor spring, and never
finish singing,

faces crimsoned
by the cinnamon wine.



low skies are cold, as winter closes
with bitter winds' back-flying sleet.
lovemaking under double quilts,
we know
three summers' heat.



i am
the north
pole star

that never, in a thousand
years,
will change or shift,

but you, beloved, have a heart
as moveable
as the white sun's

that daily, east
to west
must drift.



double geese
in autumn's sky
make my

delight,
spring's coupling
martins, joy.

but what new matches
can we see,
if eagles seize

the prairie chick,
or the ring-throated pheasant
die?
