Right so I'm conflicted on this. It's really enjoyable, with great beautiful art and moments. However, while it has a good enough concept, I'm conflicted if the story was breathtaking or an above average for YA. It's definetly good though, but it might be just because it checks all my boxes for a good comic.

Art: The art is beautiful. Alright style with a good level of detail though, beautiful colors, nice panel make up. There's some really beautiful panels, in the dreams, and towards the end specifically.

Character: Our main character Alice is a bit of the standard unpopular/shy nerd I've seen in alot of comics. I do think they do enough with her to make her not cookie cutter- she has depth to her and you do root for her. Jamie, her friend is pretty good, he's too likeable for me to nitpick him. He's kinda a little too simple. Then there's the bully character Taisha, who I do like how her whole thing resolves, she's not one note. The family's alright, I like how they have an actual character and relationships with eachother though. The brother was really one note and tropey, just standard "sibling rivalry" stuff. The side characters are pretty good, add some nice substance.

Story: Right story, when you've read at least a couple of YA comics, they all tend to be cut from the same cloth. Of course this one has a gimmick, and it's a pretty good gimmick, of dreams. The story is really beautiful and distracts you with that, so yeah if you don't think too hard about it it's an amazing book. At worst it's just a good book to me. The dreams kinda tie oddly into the story, and I can't really grasp what the idea of the story was supposed to be. Friendship? Growing up? Moving on? Idk, really. The ending's pretty sweet at least, it just feels like the author didn't know exactly what they wanted this to be. But they cover that up really well with the actual comic. So yeah it's a beautiful mess that I reccomend.

On the surface Alice: From Dream to Dream looks like a cute and easy read but this story packs quite an emotional punch.

A Miniature Poodle is lying on a bed with a softcover books to the left. A Golden Doodle is in the background.

ALICE FROM DREAM TO DREAM by Giulio Macaione and illustrated by Giulia Adragna is an ethereal journey into the realms of dreams and teenage struggles. The narrative follows Alice, a young girl grappling with her unique ability to enter dreams. Contrary to expectations, Alice employs her power conscientiously, adding depth to her character. The story delves into her daily hardships, family dynamics, and a mysterious connection with a girl trapped in a graveyard pond. The hauntingly beautiful artwork complements the narrative, enhancing the dreamlike ambiance. The book stands out for its unparalleled concept, well-crafted characters, and immersive storytelling. A standalone gem in 2019's graphic novel landscape, it leaves you yearning for more, a testament to its captivating storytelling and a desire to explore the origins of Alice's extraordinary abilities.
