This book written by E. B. White, features a pig named Wilbur, a spider named Charlotte, and a girl named Fern.
One day, in fern’s farm a few pigs are born, one among them was too tiny that it would die any minute. Fern’s father decides to kill it. Fern stops him and grows the pig in her house. She named him Wilbur. Soon when the pig starts growing plump, her family couldn’t afford enough food for him, so they send him to a much bigger farm. He feels lonely there. Soon enough he meets a barn spider named Charlotte. Soon they become best friends for life. When he becomes more plump the barn owner decides to kill him. Charlotte weaves different types of things in her web, so that Wilbur doesn’t die. At the end Charlottes sacrifices her own life for saving Wilbur from death.
The main idea of the story is Friendship. Friendship and love are the central themes of Charlotte's Web. It is through the love of Fern and Charlotte that Wilbur is able to go on living, both in the beginning of the novel and in its ending. Along with friendship comes sacrifice.

I’m giving this book 5 stars out of nostalgia. I loved the cartoon version as a child and both are very similar. I’m sure I would’ve loved the book as well if I had read it as a child. It was still a really enjoyable story. Sad too.

Charlotte is the sweetest. I don't care that it's a children's book, I enjoyed every single bit of it.

I cannot say enough how sweet and delightful this book is. I read it as a young girl and it was delightful to read it as an adult. The feeling, the storyline, the innocence, the sweetness are perfect. One of my favorite childhood books. The descriptions of the seasons make my heart sing.
I read this book because it was published in 1952 the year my dad was born as a tribute to him.

A beautiful book. I think one of my favorite things about it (and probably one of my favorite things when I was a kid reading it) is that it doesn't talk down to the reader while providing a whole lot of interesting information. Let's face it, you learn a lot about spiders! I could never convince myself that any of them were as cool as Charlotte, but it was nice to know why they did what they did. The feelings were also very recognizable, even if life on a farm was not, starting with Fern's love for baby Wilbur (who didn't want to raise a baby pig after reading that?) and moving onto Wilbur's insecurity and loneliness at being the new animal on the farm. The snippy lambs were a nice touch to really make it seem like a schoolyard as well as a barnyard. Plus everyone grew and evolved, right down to annoying brother Avery. All because of one little spider.
What is odd to me, though, is how overlooked Charlotte is by everyone and everything in the book. I think it's Mrs. Zuckerman who comments that what they really have is some spider, not just some pig, but everyone ignores that and is just convinced that it's a miracle pig. I'm with Mrs. Zuckerman - miracle, yes, but it's the miracle spider...which I just realized makes you, the reader, love Charlotte all the more. She is a beautiful example of selfless giving and true friendship. Good job, E.B. White! Now, one of these days I'll get back to Stuart Little.
