another ginzburg classic.
i feel like im always stating the same things, but it’s impossible to not when it comes to her work. ginzburg writes in a way so entrancing, it’s simple and easy to follow, but it holds so much weight, floats on the page with such elegance. her simple words feed you so much that you can’t help but continue turning.
the road to the city is a small novella about delia, who wants nothing more than to escape her poor fortune. when delia suddenly falls pregnant, she agrees to marry the father in order to save her reputation. this small novella touches on so much, the expectations of women, the power of men, love lost and grief, class struggle and much more.
this is my 5th book by ginzburg and im starting to grow worried that i’m running out of her to read, i know she has a few non fiction works so im excited to get into that. all in all, the road to the city was another great exploration of natalia ginzburgs style.

This economic prosed short novel has been a surprise to me, very enjoyable and reflective of the time. It’s sad to think how narrow and limited was life for women, not so long ago.
