Ether was insufferable. I found myself not even enjoying the book because I knew I'd have to read her ridiculously unrealistic diatribe frequently throughout the book. It sucks because I was really looking forward to this one, but I just can't deal with Ether.

This book was intense but I liked it. I liked the cast of characters and the role of the internet and the sensationalization of the story and how JASON PARGIN makes the reader believe the hype and hysteria…There were strong debates that were “thought provoking” starting points, as Pargin said in his closing. I liked this parallel world and am inspired to work to change our own to steer our current one away from this…
As a chronically online person since 2001...this book is way too spot on. Twitch streamer with a hell of an incel VOD archive (who is made to feel like an idiot for it later on)? Check! Redditors who didn't learn from the mistakes made during the Boston Bombing incident and let their imaginations create insane and inaccurate theories about the box? Check! Unfortunate situations involving doxxing? Check (sadly). A supporting character who makes a living drawing bizarre furry porn for paying customers? CHECK!
I echo some of the other reviews that state that this book went on for a bit too long, thoughI was amused by the second coming of the Killdozer . All in all, I enjoyed the journey the book took me on, and I think many people need the dose of reality that this book is providing that the internet is not real life. The internet does influence real life situations, yes, but the internet does not have to dictate how you view your surroundings.

Some of my favorite quotes mentioned:
If reality isn't enough to keep you interested and you find yourself constantly inventing a fake reality for yourself, you need to rethink your life.
That's the other thing about living in the black box--you get trained to turn every little thing in your life into a grand fucking psychodrama.
Yes, lots of strangers are saying terrible things about you on here. But look--I just turned it off. Now they're gone. These people walking around this parking lot, in that store, they don't care about any of this. Inside, food still tastes good, water is still wet, and you're still alive in a healthy and strong body. That's real. And when you focus on real things, you'll be shocked at how easy it is to make this not matter at all. [...] because despite what the modern world insists, you can actually get over bad things happening to you. But I don't even think that's going to happen. I think we are falling into the classic internet mirage that makes it seem like everything that happens there is super incredibly important in the real world when, most of the time, it's nothing.

Not my cup of tea. I was intrigued by the title but I found it rambling and somewhat hard to follow and a bit pointless. Which given some of the discussion and debate within may in fact be the point.
Others may like this - it's just not for me.

I really enjoyed this. I think this should be required reading for parents of teens and teens themselves. This is a poetic fictionalized interpretation of a very important, real issue that is happening with modern media. I love Jason and his ideas are always worth discussing!
