The Spiderwick Chronicles are great books for young readers. They are among the best fantasies out there for the middle school aged crowd.

The Grace family has just moved into their great aunt's dilapidated Victorian home to get a fresh start after the Grace parents divorced. While exploring, Jared Grace finds a mysterious room that contains books all about faeries and other magical creatures...and after two weird encounters, Jared begins to believe in the creatures that his uncle (Arthur Spiderwick) wrote about. In order to make amends to the brownie that he believes they have upset, he and his siblings create a new home for the creature and finally come face to face with a brownie.
A wonderful fantasy for readers who are just transitioning into chapter books: shorter chapters and multiple illustrations per chapter.

I really liked rereading this book because I loved it as a kid. I mostly did it to get ahead of my reading goal but I still loved the nostalgia.

Cute!!! Super duper short and kinda wish there was more faerie info but I guess that’s what the rest of the series is for. Also simon is a real one, 90% of his moments are just “I wanna catch animals instead of whatever the hell this is” and I love that for him

I read it once and loved it, but decided *since it had been a long time since then* to re-read it. Just for fun :D! I so love Jared ^^!

Reread it before continuing the series. I liked the story, it's just very short.

I... don't really know how I feel about this one. It's very different from anything I've read before. I was expecting something like A Series of Unfortunate Events but this has a lot less text and a lot more (really good) illustration. But it has a cool concept and I think, if I were a kid, I would have loved it.
