this is the second time i read this book, I started for the second time while standing in line at the library for early voting. I quickly discovered that I had already read it but Burke does such a beautiful job of describing places and getting into thought processes that I decided to read it again and see if I liked it as much. Actually I liked it better. He knows Lousianna and the people and I know the characters that he so aptly describes. I really really like James Lee Burke.

You just can't beat Will Patton's narration and James Lee Burke's writing.

This entry hit the usual notes of the series with lots of atmosphere and Dave's usual self destructive behavior. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Will Patton who did a fine job with Dave's first person narration but was less successful with the supporting characters of Clete and Helen.

Easily one of my favorite installments of one of my favorite series. Found myself rearranging my schedule to read more than I've been able to lately.
