This was just so…boring, to use a word they use approximately a million times.
I haven’t read the previous books in the series, so I got no backstory for these characters. But Zoe and Zander were just…meh.
It’s sort of a childhood friends to lovers, only both have been in love with each other since forever and they both pretty much know about it. Their friends and family know about it too. Why they haven’t gotten together? Hell if I know…
Other than that, you START the book with Zander being talked into asking Zoe to marry him- although they’ve never dated- by her dad. And Zoe is going through a third-life crisis because apparently she’s the most boring person ever.
I didn’t particularly enjoy reading this one. I get the Swifties appeal but a framing device does not a good book make. Almost DNF’d it tbh.

it’s not very good. the taylor references are okay. zoe is an idiot and oblivious and overall annoying. zee (i wish it was just z) was a little pushy like he deserved her and he was overall annoying. idk man. not my fav. and a little too dirty for me. a lot too dirty personally but it can be skipped and no plot is really missed

As a swiftie, this gets 5 stars. As a reader, 2 stars lol. I had a hard time getting past their names both being Z’s and Zoe was dumb for most of the book lol. Enemies to lovers > friends to lovers always though.

Read this as a book club read. I went into this knowing that I’m not a huge friends to lovers fan but I absolutely adored Zander the MMC in this book. I also didn’t know going in that this romance is basically an ode to Taylor Swift. I’m not a swiftie by any means so all of the song references and themes missed the mark for me but for someone who loves her, I can definitely see them enjoying this book. For me the FMC was infuriating, mostly because I understood where she was coming from in feeling like she needed to be an example and make her parents proud. However at the end with the third act breakup (which was ridiculous, this hot beautiful man adores you and you’re just pushing him away) infuriated me. It wasn’t needed, it just felt like she was throwing a temper tantrum. The spice was good, I don’t feel like it fit the personality of the characters but it was written well. I enjoyed the author’s writing style though and would definitely pick up another of her books, as long as it isn’t friends to lovers.
