Read as part of the HA Decades Challenge: 1960's
Even if you have seen the movie, I would give this book a chance. It is quite a bit different. Although the basic premise is the same. This was probably a 2.5 star read, but I bumped it down because I would have had a hard time judging this book as "good."

Of the Edgar Rice Burroughs-style adventure novels (which I am not a fan of), it managed hold my interest, although the level of violence was far higher than I would have liked.
More important, however, were the themes that the "youth" movement is ultimately a destructive one because youth consumes rather than creates. There's also a very clear pro right-wing tone throughout. I think it's a kind of interesting companion to Clockwork Orange, which touches on some similar themes but from the opposite point of view.

Well it was alright, a high speed chase through various places. Sometimes I couldn't comprehend what was going on due to lack of description. Although I have to say the retro/throwback factor is high with this one, I saw the film like 10-13 years ago and it kept me reading, although I prefer the film's ending.

As always, the book is better than the movie. The story was more elaborate and developed than the film, plus the book contained many additional scenes, both short and long. These factors propelled the novella quickly from start to finish. It seemed a little rushed about 4/5 of the way through, but by the time I finished, I didn't feel that way anymore and thought the pacing made sense. There are sequels to Logan's Run, but if seems that they'd be like the Colossus or Foundation sequels that came long after the original stories: weak attempts to capitalize on a fan base. I'm glad I finally had the chance to read this book.

I went ahead and picked up this book because of the review I read on tor.com. I've seen the movie a couple of times and I do like it, but the book is better than the movie.
It's not better by a whole lot, so there is no "ZOMG, you've *GOT* to read the book" feeling, but the book is a solid good read. It's dated, it is about the plethora of baby-boomers and the potential population stresses, afterall. But it's a decent read, a fast paced sci-fi thriller with a lot of interesting ideas and vibrant landscape to it.

I saw the movie years ago but had never read the book. It showed up on my library page and I breezed through it in about an hour. More interesting for the backstory to the dystopia where everyone dies at 21 than for the endless chase scenes and dated portrayals of female characters. Very dated. But I can see why it was a successful sci-fi adventure for its time. And perfect for screenplay adaptation.

I read it, because I remember being very intrigued by the movie when I was young. This short story or novelette is very different from the movie, but still quite interesting. The pace is insane and I think I would have actually liked the novel format of it much better. Nevertheless, I read it (audiobook) without effort.
