I read this gem last week and loved it, unsurprisingly, as an inhabitant of the California coast. Xia describes how the climate-change induced sea level rise will affect us. Already there are a myriad of changes to our coastline, and we will have to come to terms with the fact that it was never meant to be static to begin with. We got lucky, experienced a time of stable sea levels, and went on to put almost all of our eggs in that basket. And yet, buildings are tumbling into the sea, losing their artificial seaside real estate value in an instant. If you're interested in a climate change read that is a bit less of a doomsday text than Greta Thurnberg's book, look no further. Bonus: it has a ton of content on Santa Cruz and the Monterey / San Francisco Bay. 🤍
