Really good read, different, can’t wait to see where it goes. Some parts did have me hella confused but that might just be me.

Urban fantasy book, the start of a series with a fun premise. If you like the genre and you need a good distraction, it is a short book to pass the time.
This isn’t just one of the best books I’ve read this year; it’s one of the best books I have ever read. It’s lyrical and lush and vicious and cathartic, it’s queer and magical and incredibly original, it’s delicate as spun sugar and sharp as steel. It’s perfect, and I don’t use that word lightly for books. It’s impossibly, breathtakingly perfect.

This book has been in my recommendations for ages. I didn't like the idea of the plot but the reviews were great so I thought I'd give it a go, it wasn't for me so that teaches me a lesson I guess. It's all a bit weird/cliche/tropey. Why has ryn never spoken to humans in the millenia she's been alive and why is she perfect at everything instantly. She is very annoying. I didn't like the way politics were always in the background, especially because I don't live in the US so didn't understand what some of it meant.
I can't tell who this book was written for either; the content is very adult but it's written about teenagers with teenager-y themes. The writing itself wasn't necessarily bad just really not for me.

Good main character, but missing deeper plot early on
Took a while to get into this book and while it did not capture my attention and hold it firmly, Ryn is endearing. I love the weaving in of lore/mythology, not so much the murder mystery. I will read the next as I like the main character.

If you've ever thought to yourself, "gee, I want to read a Matt Archer novel with baby dykes" then this is your book. Trust me, I didn't know how much I needed this until I'd stayed up all night reading it.
It's got vengeful goddesses, evil spirits, loveable characters and epic amounts of heart. Definitely recommended.
