Don’t be fooled by the ridiculous cover, Lovestruck Summer by Melissa C. Walker is a fantastic read pertaining more to indie music than to the beach. Main character Priscilla, known by everyone else as Quinn, has scored an internship at an indie label in Austin. So she packs her bags and sets out for Texas, spending the summer at her cousin Penny’s apartment. Did I mention Penny is a sorority girl whose nickname is ‘Party Penny’? Quinn is definitely in for an ‘interesting’ summer.

Cute and fun read, but really predictable. I love the banter between Quinn and Russ. Quinn's prejudice really bugs me though. Definitely a nice beach read!Actually I kind of think this was a bit like Pride and Prejudice in a very very distant way.

The main character was clueless and super judgmental, though she did improve as the story progressed. Liked the setting (Austin Texas) and the secondary characters. The ending was really cheesy and I wasn’t wild about either guy in the love triangle.

**read for book scavenger hunt - a book that takes place in summer**

I read this one as part of the 48 Hour Book Challenge. I thought it would be a quick read, which it was, but I found myself taking it slower because I didn't want it to end. I LOVED it! I've been in a reading slump the last week or so and Melissa Walker helped me get out of it and find a book where I was totally drawn in.

Quinn is great-she's this cool indie music girl, and I could totally relate to her. I wanted to be the indie music girl in college (my undergrad degree is actually in Communications/Radio) and I spent a semester studying music biz on Martha's Vineyard. I was pulled back to my college years of concerts, music conversations and crushes on indie music band boys. The thing I loved about Quinn is that she is kind of girlie-even if she doesn't want to admit it. :)

And then there's Russ-sigh. So cute, so funny, and totally crush worthy! All the supporting characters had depth and were interesting and I felt like I really got to know everyone, which I really enjoyed.

The cover may look like a typical chick lit romance, but this has so much more. Yes, it's a romance, but even if you usually snub romance, I would suggest picking this one up. It's more a story of Quinn, her crazy summer, what she learns about people and there just happens to be some very hot boys! It's the perfect book to kick off your summer. I will definitely be re-reading this one.

Lovestruck summer is a perfect book to read during the summer, laying out on a beach, chill-axing, soaking up the sun etc... you know what I mean.

This book is fun, quick and quirky.

Not only was the romance and plot was well executed but I feel I learnt and benefited a lot after reading this. It shows a chick-lit book doesn't just have to have Sugar, spice, and everything nice, to be entertaining. The most interesting point the Author made was not to judge too harshly on first impressions, have an open mind.

The characters were quite interesting. Quinn's passion for music was both very believable and enlightening. I loved seeing her relationship with music change when she changed, it was like the music was part of her.

As for Russ. What an effing hottie! He was one of those characters that I imagined so well in my mind, I swear he was real. Well I guess insanity could be the reason for it. He was just so cute and endearing. A supreme guy!

Quinn's relationships with Russ and Sebastian, the DJ, was really well done. I liked the fact I could see particularly who Quinn is meant to be with, without making the other guy out to be a jerk.

This book has an easy to read fast paced dialogue and plot, so I had it mostly read in one sitting. Even though there were times when the Author explained things a little too much, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. An absolute recommend.

Summer is a perfect time to sit by the pool or beach with a cool lemonade and get soaked in a good book. Lovestruck Summer by Melissa Walker is, needless to say a perfect summer read. I have always wanted to visit Texas to experience the heat and be a part of Austin Music Festival. Lovestruck Summer gave me what I needed for a relaxing summer. I wanted something light and summery to read and started browsing in the middle of the night and Lovestruck summer caught my eyes and immediately I was Lovestruck with the book. The next morning was official summer day and I had a relaxing time at my patio with a lemonade and enjoyed every part of Lovestruck Summer. Summer fling, friendship, love and music all blended into one cute novel is what we get from this book.

The protagonist Priscilla Quinn Parker, is spending her summer in Austin with Penny, who is Priscilla's oh sorry Quinn's cousin. The protagonist prefers her middle name Quinn. Needless to say, when someone addresses her as Priscilla she gets exasperated. Penny lives a typical sorority girl's life. Quinn's idea for summer in Austin is, she wants to intern and also find a summer fling who loves the same music as she does and enjoy her favorite music band, the Walters. Russ, who lives next door is an attractive cowboy (Quinn's version) also a frat boy keeps pulling Quinn's legs all the time. Russ is an enthusiastic boy who loves country music and tries to infuse the love of country music into Quinn. Quinn slowly starts to emerge from her sphere of music to other types of music. Quinn's summer started to take a different turn than she expected.

Quinn meets Jade at the place where she interns and she has the same taste in music as Quinn. Although the story revolves around Quinn and finding a summer fling, it also focuses on the emerging friendship between Quinn and Jade. Jade introduces Sebastian, who is a DJ to Quinn and immediately she identifies her perfect boyfriend, but it is pretty obvious that he is not the one for Quinn. Quinn keeps complaining that Russ calls her Priscilla and not Quinn to Sebastian. At some point Russ and Quinn become good friends and when their relationship is about to bloom, as in all YA chick-lit, drama takes place. Unlike most of the romance novels, I didn't find the drama to be overwhelming.

Melissa Walker's writing was simple and easy to read at the same time it was captivating. I read the book in single sitting for straight 4 hours. Yet I had one issue with the story as I'm not able to clearly identify if it's the run-of-the-mill contemporary romance or something new. That was the only qualm. Trust me the story is very engaging and compensates for the small issues. I agree the story is kind of cliched, and I found myself rolling my eyes at certain moments in the book, but don't you agree with me that sometimes light fun read would lift up your summer mood?? I would recommend this book if your looking for something summery chick-lit.

I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy, so I loved this book. In romance novels, you always know that the girl will get the guy, but the fun part is reading to find out which guy it is and her journey to get there. In this book, Quinn thought that Sebastian was her dream guy, when in truth, it was really Russ. When I read books like these, I always end up yelling at the main character because she doesn't realize what everyone else realizes.

Having read a bunch of glowing reviews of this book before I read it, and having read and loved Melissa's Violet series, I had fairly high expectations. The book did not exactly meet my expectations, but it is was this close.

The characters were all unique and developed, even the cross dressing dog. They could easily be stereotyped, but they all had something that prevented them from being that way, whether they had a sekrit hobby or a certain quirk. However, I never was really convinced that Quinn was an "indie" girl. Sure, she listened to an indie band all the time, was an intern at an indie label, and dated a DJ, but something about her stopped me from completely buying that she's this complete indie girl. I think it may of been her voice; with all her boy talk, she sounded more girly than indie.

Because this a romance comedy, you can probably tell what happens based just on the description. I know I did, but I was surprised that it took so long for the romance I predicted to happen. Because it took so long and so many twists showed up, it was all the more sweet and cute when it finally happened.

Lovestruck Summer is a cute, fun read that's perfect for the summer.
