It’s been a long time since a book gave me nightmares.

Intense, screwed up, insane. Aptly names.

I’ve never read a book like it, I think it got me with the shock factor. Wasn’t expecting much but kept me on tenter hooks.

I'm in dubio here.

Did I like the storyline? Actually yes, I did. The way the character of Agnes, the escaped patient, and how she goes to work, is put down in a way that makes your blood run cold. Then why the doubts about this book? Well, my copy only consisted out of 213 pages and more than 10 were an intro to the author's other books etc and it contained of more than 70 chapters. No I don't need chapters that go on and on. But come on, a chapter for just one action. It made me feel restless. Also the link with the reincarnation and past lives could have been worked out better. To me the author missed an opportunity to make it a full-worthy book.

Written in 1997 so know what you’re getting yourself into.

I enjoyed this book. This is my first Douglas Clegg book. It’s a bit gruesome. It’s at times a bit unbelievable so it feels silly & a little predictable but if you can suspend disbelief & just go with it ... it’s a quick scary read. Thriller on the side of horror!

Agnes was an interesting Antagonist. Definitely criminally insane for a reason! I think I’ll try another book in the criminally insane series.

So much potential. This story had the potential to be something different, chilling, memorable. Unfortunately, it was vaguely interesting. My attention swung between bored and engrossed, without the demanding need to know what happened next. My favorite chapters were those from Agnes' point of view; it was eerie to step into the mind of a psychopath. True, there was some gore, but nothing worse than Karin Slaughter has provided. Overall, I enjoyed Bad Karma, I just think it could have been so much more.

Douglas Clegg writing under pseudonym.

Trey Campbell, a psychiatrist to the mentally insane, is on much needed vacation with his wife and kids. As his luck would have it one of his most dangerous inmates, Agnes Hatcher AKA the surgeon because of her propensity to skillfully remove body parts, escapes. She believes she shares past lives with Trey and sets out to fulfill their destiny and will destroy anyone who gets in her way. This is a chilling, taut, fast-paced story that was impossible for me to put down because the author creates such a fascinating villain: a pretty, petite girl turned into a savage monster. I was repulsed and riveted and enjoyed it completely.

This is the first Douglas Clegg novel I have read and I look forward to reading more. I particularly enjoyed the family dynamics of the story. I don't know if Mr. Clegg has kids, but he certainly writes like he does. It's this familial bond that makes the stakes in this story so dire. We relate. Protect family at all costs. My only minor criticism was predictability. I knew where the bad guy was headed early on. But still, Bad Karma kept me wanting to turn pages, even when sleep tugged at my eyes and that's what a book is supposed to do. A recommended read!
