This book took me absolutely forever to finish, if I wasn’t reading it with my husband and the last hundred pages didn’t pick up I probably would’ve DNFd!

The stream of consciousness drove me absolutely nuts, I can definitely see what draws young people to this book however, for me, a 28-year-old, it was absolutely so tough to get into. My husband doesn’t read a ton, and he got me this book to read with him for our anniversary. the world was really hard for him to follow as well. He is a low IQ reader but felt like the narrator was just TUFF to read.

The use of random large words and confusing use of “Malia, malifcaria, mana…etc” was senseless. I was extremely disappointed in this read!

Ending picked up, cliffhanger was meh. Nothing I haven’t read before to be honest.

Going to read the next one with my husband, just took us a WHILE to get into.

4.5 stars.

This book broke my reading slump and pulled me in from the first page. I really enjoyed the characters and there were a good number of hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud. El was such an entertaining lead, particularly in how angry she was all the time, her internal dialogue as she struggled to control her anger was priceless. I also loved El and Orion's relationship -- El's names for Orion were phenomenal. Here are some samples:

Orion! Orion Lake, that means you, you tragic blob of unsteamed pudding,...

Don’t even open your mouth in my direction, you overgrown lemming,” I snapped at Orion,...

“Lake, you utter wanker, go up!”

She's so mean to him in the best way.
