I am a huge Taylor Jenkins Reid fan and admire so much how her work has grown. I think often when authors get a fan base, they continue catering to it and doing what they know. What I appreciate most about Reid is her willingness to experiment, alter and grow. This book is continued evidence of that. Written through a set of letters written, it reminds me of her Daisy Jones & the Six novel, which is interview style. Maybe in Another Life has alternating timelines/realities. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo spans a huge timeline with somewhat of an interview style as well as multiple sections that read almost as short stories for Evelyn’s time with each husband.

TJR never stops trying new things and doing well with all of them. This is an auto-read author for me. And although that is all true, her work continuously improving does make some of it less than 5 stars for me. This one in particular gained a 4 star rating because it did feel a little more basic than many of her works with less involved line editing coming through. Additionally, it could have benefitted from being longer. Still very enjoyable and a nice light read that I finished all at once in a cafe.

After reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo I expected more…a lot more.

I had to check the dates and when I realised this was published AFTER I was even more confused.

This feels like a high school project written in one night.

I wanted to love this but didn’t.
