Read this for work as it is a strategy we are implementing with a lot of clients right now and I wanted to learn more about it. Very interesting, indeed. Glad to know that we are young and smart enough to start adjusting how we save for retirement now to help minimize future tax liabilities. Highly recommend to anyone who gives half a damn about keeping as much of their own money in their own pockets.

I’m rating this low because the methods are common sense, aren’t inclusive of all wealth strategies, and misleads the ability to achieve a zero percent tax bracket. You’re going to spend money on taxes regardless, the book admits. The key focus then, is to reduce the taxes on social security and other retirement income.

What it does well is simply the difference between the two types of IRA’s (traditional and Roth). To that end, I’ll save you the time of reading the book: there’s virtual no benefit to investing in any account besides a ROTH IRA; in the case of employer 401k match, only contribute the minimum.

The other advice about life insurance and lerp’s is too troublesome and wacky for average income earners - most won’t exceed the $6000 a year individual limit. Not to mention, whole life insurance is costly and doesn’t grow at a rate worth not investing in equities.
