Kinda kiddish and a bit cliche in storyline but I still liked this one - it was nice and fun and another CLAMP classic.

It was so good to finish this re-read of Angelic Layer via these omnibus editions from Dark Horse! From start to finish, this remains a highly underrated and very fun title, set in the same 'verse as Chobits, with a lovable cast of characters, a science-realism twist, and the thing many anime-and-manga fans adore: an on-going tournament arc. (Heck, that's pretty much entirely what Angelic Layer is, just one tournament arc captured in 5 single volumes from Tokyopop or in these two omnibus collector editions from Dark Horse.)

I think the one issue I have with these omnibus editions remains the fact that it is a very different reading experience from the one I had when I was younger. Reading the individual volumes from Tokyopop as they were released allowed me to get the story in multiple parts, at a certain pace, and it really drew out the excitement and the tension in the story. Reading the omnibus editions has left me feeling like this has all ended so very quickly, but eh, I suppose I should have expected as much.

Regardless, that's really the only negative thing I have to say. I still love and adore this series and I wish more people read it, it's absolutely worth it. It's so easy to fall in love with the characters, the world, and especially the story and the messages and themes within.

If you get a chance, please check out Angelic Layer. It's worth it, I promise you.
