Again, five stars to Ringo. Not a super deep or brilliant story by any means, but a great look at where we could go in space with a little alien help. Typical "in the trences" military for him. Not a bad thing at all.

Short review: This is the second book in a series. I read them back to back and really did enjoy the fairly mindless science fiction. I thought this was a better book because there were more people in the storyline and less political ranting. The third book has been announced, but does not have a date.

I liked it. Pretty complicated story with some interesting twists as it relates to modern warfare: extremely high volume/swarm form of attack by missiles.

I would like to be able to give a book 0 stars, but it can't be helped. I stopped dead an hour and a half into the audiobook. Somehow I thought that because the naked sexism, bigotry, and heavy-handed political buggery only showed up towards the end of the first book that it might be absent or at least partly so from this one. Not so. The author has really hit his stride - if that's what you're into. And if you are: Great for you. Please stay out of my neighborhood. Hell, my city.

I found this book at least as enjoyable as the first one. It is true that it takes a good chunk of the book before any real action is taking place but the parts of the story that leads up to that point is still quite enjoyable. I generally do not like sequels which more or less takes the focus away from the main character. For major parts Citadel this is done but it works reasonably well.
The book deals a lot with the science and logistics of building the massive battle stations, of which Troy is the first and though, sometimes, this can be quite boring in this book it is fun read. You get a glimpse of the alien politics behind the scenes as well. To be honest, I could have been without those parts.
However once the action starts it is literally “Damned the torpedoes, full speed ahead”. I’ve already started to read the third one in the series.

The second in a series. Military SF is not usually my thing but I did enjoy it more than I thought. Characters are a little stiff and one dimensional but the space battle stuff is great and overall story arc is still holding my interest.

2nd book of a trilogy. Takes a different approach from book 1 in that it is more of an outside-in look, but I liked the perspective. Good hard scifi, loved it. Book 3 up next!

Read this almost directly after finishing the first.
Not only a gripping story, but it has a lot to say about the way bureaucracy and woolly thinking are holding us back in the real world.
